Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

ETA: I felt that way about Lewinsky, too, Trudy.

Yeah. Hillary didn't deserve that (but hey, people HATE Hillary). Chelsea, however, could live a long happy life without that much fucking detail about her Father's sex life -- but nobody ever seemed to worry about her.

Hmmm... Burrell, that sounds intriguing. What happened?

I am such a bad teacher. I have work tomorrow (just meetings) but I am just now typing up my syllabus for 2 of my classes and I haven't even bothered to think about the third yet. I'm also trying to figure out the first days work. UGH. HATE. I'm such a procrastinator.

Southland Tales is by the Donnie Darko guy. Which means I meant to see it, and it's probably a love-it-or-hate-it thing. Although actually most of the comments I saw from people I trust were more like "it's interesting, but it's not actually good."

Apart from sports, "my secret favorite thing on earth is ketchup. I will put ketchup on anything. But it has to be Heinz." - my husband, Michael Vartan

"it's interesting, but it's not actually good."

"Or sensical." And then you'd have my take. But that's good to know. I was beginning to feel like I was on drugs watching it. But then it would probably make more sense.

I'm glad that all these people I enjoy do seem to be having fun though. I wish I could join them. And geez, how long is this movie? I feel like I've been watching it for years. I keep pausing for things like the laundry, but still.

The status is NOT quo.

If it makes you feel any better, I just finished my final syllabus/course overview and only have the sketchiest idea of what I'm doing tomorrow, and it's the first day of classes. I teach 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th period. Oh, and 3rd period is a double block. I am feeling a wee bit screwed.

Well, Kristin, I wish I could say that I haven't been there, but bejesus I HAVE! Hell. I'm still wallowing there. I have day one planned (poem, discussion, syllabus overview, possible pre-test) and day three (in class essay... tee hee... welcome to AP, kids!) It's pesty day 2 that might be a problem. Or maybe it won't be. Maybe day 1 will spill over into day 2!

And really, that's only for my two AP classes. My other class is journalism (I think. I'll know for sure tomorrow). I have no syllabus yet for that one and no idea what we do on day one (except maybe a personality feature of a fellow classmate? Practice?)

Sigh.

Anything for a weird life.

From a couple pages back:

I also want to knit a Klein bottle hat, just to try it, but I know I would never wear it, so I'd have to find someone else who wants a Klein bottle hat.

My friend (StolenCubicle on these here boards) made me one for my birthday last year, as well as a mobius scarf, which I thought was really cool, but also kind of inappropriate because my birthday is in the middle of July and I live in South Florida. Dressing for warmth is more often done for movie theaters than actual climate.

My sister in educational woe!

I can't believe that you don't even know for sure what you're teaching. WTF??

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

Daniel, your cousin's photographs make me smile like few things have done recently. The YouTube thing is awesome. Thank you for sharing it.

Daniel, I concur with Beverly. Made me tear up, actually.
