Punishingly Intricate

Other than the PUMA thing, who supports those positions who wasn't already going to vote for McCain?

And on the PUMA thing, I really think it has been blown out of proportion by the media and McCain's campaign. I mean really how many Democratic women are going to vote for McCain because they are pissy Clinton didn't get nominated, not very many at all I don't think.

I don't know, maybe it's easier for me to be optimistic because of where I live and who I know.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Well, you have a woman which may help with the PUMA crowd, but also that helps deflect from McCain who does not have a great record on woman's rights.

But neither does she! I just don't get it. I mean, I get why they picked her, but I don't understand why it would be successful as pandering.

Pandering to the right, sure.

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

Both McCain and Palin will get trounced in the debates.

It was a cynical choice.

The youngest - 4 months - also has Downs. Is this really a good time to take on such a political role?

I gritted my teeth and checked the comments on a local news board, and the radical righties are ecstatic. She hunts! She skins her own critters! She understands that a woman's job is to be a mother first! She's in charge of a great big state! And she blew the whistle on her own party's corruption!

Apparently she has a bass boat, too. She's One Of Us!

Apparently this illustrates how perfect she is on the subject of family values. A Vice President who has to go home to take care of the kids is perfect for the Limbaugh lemmings.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

the Alaska repubs have to be the most corrupt political organization going since the Grant administration

Are, and have been for a loooooong time.

Bristol, Willow, and Piper? Seriously? (All place names in AK.)

“Not dead yet!”

Sarah and Todd Palin have five children: boys Track, 19, and Trig, 4 months, and daughters Bristol, 17, Willow, 13, and Piper, 7.

Like I said-- good ol' boy. Those sound like names that'll appeal down here.

And all I can think of Trig is "She named her kid after a horse or an integral part of a gun-- either way, poor kid."

I don't know, maybe it's easier for me to be optimistic because of where I live and who I know.

Where I live, the first words from every democratic candidate I meet is "Hi I'm [insert candidate's name], I'm a pro-gun, pro-life democrat, and..."

I don't think this will change anyone's minds, though it might reassure any reluctant Republicans who were going to sulk at home. Hopefully it will also annoy enough Democrats who were also going to sulk at home.
