Well, I bought two bags on the way home, one black and one brown. Now I want to switch the black one for the same model as the brown, because it's a little bigger, but I'll sleep on that decision.
I have enough outfits with no or small pockets that no bag would never be an option. It would be nice to have one big enough for a paperback, but it's just a shade too small once you have the camera and blackberry in there as well as my phone.
As a skirt/dress wearer, I never seem to have pockets.
This is why I wear jackets all the time. Admittedly, I'm helped in this by SF's mild weather.

I have...um....several laptop bags. Like, four or five. And um...a backpack. And I think one fancy purse that matches an evening dress. And two nice leather purses. And one cheapo target canvas purse. And probably one or two other things that are somewhere in between "purse" and "messenger bag/backpack thing/tote".
[Edit; which is to say, I use some of the laptop thigns when traveling, and on a day to day basis, I use the backpack or the cheap Target one pretty much only ever, but I really need to replace the target one cause it's getting beat up]
I probably have 5-10 purses at any given time. I do a purge every few years. I try to keep one in brown one in black and a summer bag in canvas or straw in any color. I do have one very 'spensive purse which is my default bag most of the time.
