I have about 10, but only 2 or 3 of them get frequent use.

I have, um, maybe 10-15 handbags? I will carry one particular bag for months at a time, then decide it is time to switch bags and spend an evening going through the whole changing-over-handbag ritual. Moving everything from one bag to the other, doing some minor hedge-witchery with good luck charms, that sort of stuff.
Travel question: I can put my laptop in the suitcase I'm carrying on, right? (I know I'll have to take it out for the scanner....)
Okay, stain is off my counter. Yay! I am much less insane now. Also, the two-hour nap probably helped.
Now I should do laundry and pack.
I have three that get used, one that used to be used a lot, and a bunch I use never. Of the three, one gets used only on weekends (holds just key and wallet,) one gets used on weekends if I am carrying more than that and now when I travel, and the third is a monster I use only if travelling with anything bulkier than a couple books, ipod and a waterbottle.
And then I carry a satchel to work.
{{hugs}} Juliebird.
ita, I have one that I carry until it gets retired or repaired. I used to be better about changing for spring and fall, but not so much now. If I was going to an event, I would probably invest in a coordinating bag for an outfit, but I haven't been in that situation in long time.

This was me for a long time. The fact that it looked like Giles' was just bonus. Wonder where that is?
I have about 5. One I carry every day (this one [link] which is AWESOME), and a couple of dressy bags, and some old ones, which I keep around in case I need them.
And then I carry a satchel to work.
Oh yeah. Whatever handbag I'm carrying is completely separate from my bookbag. (My MCR bookbag, because I am completely devoid of shame.)
The leather satchel is in need of a good cleaning treatment. It's 12 years old and kinda beat up. But I love it. Handmade in Prague. I've spilled water and robitussin in it. I've mashed bananas into it. None of that ruined it at all. But the leather needs a good conditioning.
Julie, may your cat get bored and come home.
I have three purses--the everyday one that's big enough to hold everything, including a book or two up to trade paperback size, and with a long enough strap that I can wear over my shoulder to be hands-free, a fancy clutch I almost never use, and a tiny cloth one in a sort of Indian patchwork that's just big enough to hold ID and money.
