OK, on pretty much the exact second I typed the "perfect time for a swear word" line? The Windows machine I'm connecting to (the one that's not mine) decided it's the perfect time to install updates and restart itself, no matter how I tried to click the"restart later" option.
It apparently was a perfect time for *something*.

So, the let's-do-the-exact-same-thing-I'm-not-kidding-it-was-exactly-the-same-from-scratch thing seems to begin to work. So far, tfu tfu, things seem to talk to each other, when I have to use three (!) different computers in order to take the part-which-works in each one of them.

I hadn't heard that before! The neck of the woods I grew up in, it was sign of the cross (large catholic population.) Probably less common a habit in Israel...
