I'm sad to report that the French for stress is in fact "le stress".
The Hebrew for "stress" is not "stress", or even "le stress", and yet people use it to mean "stress" all the time, if that helps.
OK, I just wrote the word "stress" way too many times.
If arguing against the DH doesn't make sense, I don't want to make sense!
So, umm, all good, then.
Nilly, did you see the article in the NY Times about how modern Hebrew is changing? [link]
I loved this bit:
Asked about a particular example of Hebrew shorthand often used in laconic online chat, Mr. Birnbaum was able with a click of his mouse to locate the earliest use of it — in a Dead Sea scroll.
Why do I want to write "bias-ness"?
OK, I just wrote the word "stress" way too many times.
Don't stress out about it.
Ah ha! The use of articles in French with proper nouns is why so many female artists in the early and mid 20th century were referred to as Le or The Whomever!
Is this when I admit that in my mind javachik is "la javanaise"?
Yay, babies! (or, not so much babies!)
Also, special for bon bon (and anyone else who likes things that are awesome): [link]
It doesn't have to make sense for me to love the Giants and hate the Dodgers and argue relentlessly against the DH.
I missed something, didn't I? DH?
Hehe.
Hey, I CAN WATCH FLICKR VIDS NOW!
God,they are so big. And Gracie's teethy grin!
Gadget_Girl, I hope all the badness of the year was crammed into its beginning, so the rest of it will have the opportunity to actually improve.
argue relentlessly against the DH
OK, so it's not "Dear Husband" and it's not "Dark Horse" and it's not even "Dr. Horrible". I ran out of DHes by now.
Israel has a local basketball team (not the national team, but one representing one of the towns, just like many others) who is pretty good in European terms and manages to get to the European Cup finals or semi-finals quite often. It drives some people insane that some other people treat this team as "Israel". It's not "Makabi Tel Aviv won", it's "Israel won", for so many.
[Edit: Hil, thanks for the link - I didn't see it! Bookmarked to be read after Thursday.]
