Help desperately needed!
We are on the verge of becoming a fiasco of the type that is broadcast on This American Life.
One of the paired doves that hangs out around our house just fell down the chimney and is now in trapped in the fireplace. Non lethal suggestions for how to get him out?
Sheets. Swooping sheets herding it to an opening.
If you can corner it with the sheet in the fireplace, blocking the upward escape, and lay your hands on it, carry it outside and all is good.
If it's stuck in the chimney, or not coming out, just block out its entrance to the house. It will get out as long as nothing is seriously wrong with it.
Man, I wish I were there. I'm good at that shit.
I've gotten several birds out of stoves safely. As Sarameg says, block off its ability to go anywhere but the nearest exit and open that exit. They usually find their way out pretty quickly. You can shoo them in the right direction with a broom.
I called Lori. She brought a lacrosse stick. I don't like birds enough to lay my hands on one.
Our fireplace is gas. My other thought was turn on the gas without lighting the pilot until it passes out, then take care of it. People pointed out that was a bad idea because it might make the house go boom.
The bird freaked out the dog who thought, Toy! an lunged for it while it was on the other side of the glass doors in the fireplace. Noah FREAKED OUT completely. Poor baby.
Good Luck kat!
My PBS station is playing This is the Army, for no apparent reason. They credited the cast/crew with their army ranks. Costumes by Pvt. Orry-Kelly is making me laugh!
Good luck with the bird, Kat. I wouldn't touch it either. ick.
The above conversation made me think that I should check my work email, but my password is expired and it won't let me set a new one. Good. I think.
I love the subject matter of my job. I just wish it was more challenging. I guess I am never satisfied.
Lori got the bird out without any incident. Thank god.
