I so wish I was in San Francisco now....
Friggin in the Riggin Aboard the Tall Ship USCG Eagle
If you’ve ever enjoyed even a little bit of Joseph Conrad, Patrick O’Brian, Moby Dick, or Pirates of the Caribbean, you really should get down to Pier 30/32 in San Francisco during the next few days to check out the tall ships that are now tied up there. Or, at the very least, be sure to savor the view of them as you drive across the Bay Bridge.
Yesterday the Coast Guard gave me tour of the USCG Eagle, a steel-hulled, three-mast ship that was originally built by the Nazis in 1936. After World War II, the ship was seized as a war prize by the U.S. military. Once in American hands, it was handed over to the Coast Guard for use as a training vessel, and it’s been in use at the Coast Guard Academy ever since.
Lots of pictures. More pictures/info here: Festival of Sail - Parade of Tall Ships Under the Golden Gate Bridge
I just got off the phone with Mom. I wanted to get a sense of where everything lies with my brother, and I told her to have him call me whenever he wants to talk. He moved in with her last night temporarily until he gets an apartment.
Mom thinks that SIL might get grabby with the divorce settlement, especially when it comes to his pension. I hope not--I'd like to see them have as amicable a settlement as my parents did--but I just don't know.
The good thing is that they're going to bring the kids to see the counselor they've been using for marriage therapy. They were struck really hard by the news, obviously.
ugh, Kathy. much ~ma for them all.
Hey, if I wanted to ask a question about the upcoming TV show "True Blood", would discussion take place in Boxed Set or Premium Cable?
Upcoming? Either will do - but possibly Spoilers Lite if it's casting etc. Premium is where it will live though.
Oh, Kathy, what Nora said.
It's good to read that they're already trying to help the kids as much as possible.
Nilly, are you still up? Or are you up early? What time is it there?
Reason # 356 to love my job.
We are having a best margarita/salsa contest right now.
I just had a frozen thing with Chambourd on top and margarita jello (interesting as an experiment, but it won't get my vote)
Still up. It just turned into tomorrow here (as in, midnight). I'm now a pumpkin. Or a shoe, I'm not sure.
I'm trying to pull being awake and productive as much as I can, since I can't work at my computer on Saturday (which starts Friday evening), and my dissertation deadline is next week.
Also, I'm whiny and feeling sorry for myself. Hmm, if a pumpkin feels sorry for itself, does that make it a squash?
Well I managed to get most of the time sensitive tasks that I can't do in a normal weekday done: post office, library, bank, bottle return.
And I avoided the temptation to buy stuff, so that is good.
