oh, yes, it was made of awesome. Despite the fact that Ashcroft ended up looking kind of heroic (and Tommyrot is totally right in saying that if Ashcroft thinks that your shit is shady, it is sha-day.), it really underscored the level of sleaze in the White House.

After the acting AG refused to sign, Gonzalez and Card went to Ashcroft's hospital room and tried to get him to sign off on it after he'd had surgery.
Yeah, I remember that part of the story, but I think the allegation that Ashcroft was ultimately forced out over this issue is new. I think.
