I'm developing a serious girlcrush on Rachel Maddow this week. Not only does she use the word "kerfuffle" twice while guest-hosting last Wednesday's Countdown, but she made an oblique reference to being gay on today's show. ("The one time Fox ever asked me to comment on a news item was when Madonna and Britney Spears kissed during an awards show. Maybe they thought I had experience in these matters? Whatever.")
Better yet, she doesn't do that oh-so-annoying thing I've noticed many female Twinkies on 24-hour news shows do: announce the news with that little questioning inflection at the end of sentences? Because that makes them less threatening or more feminine? I was fuming about that to ChiKat while watching CNN one morning F2F weekend.
Thank you, Rachel, for being decisive about what you say!
In mydadnews, here's him and his Big Fish!"
Friend called as I was at library and I ran over to her place to print out resume. Now have several copies. Am tired and sweaty. Just want a frickin' job, already. Can't believe it's only been a week.
Ohmygod, Kathy? You mean Uptalk? That thing that drives me violently bugshit whether it's a newstwinkie or some random undergrad doing it?
Perkins, [link] is the best. It uses all of the sites mentioned, and more!
Hours later, Thanks Javachik!
Work ated too much of my brains today.
Yes, Uptalk! God, I hate it. I don't know why women (and it's always women who use it) get into the habit, because it just makes them sound indecisive and weak.
Grrrrr.
So, Perkins, is this you today? I think it was me. The only productive thing I managed to do was call my mom and type a few things into the computer at work.
msbelle, I'm guessing you don't want me to introduce mac to the Walter the Farting Dog series?
Damn.

I think it's supposed to encourage the listener to agree or otherwise interact with the speaker. As it makes me feel disagreeable I tend to avoid further interaction with whoever uses it.
I'm all for layering (the office goes from 65F to 80F on any given day), but forced layering sounds way too fashion police-y for my tastes.

Pretty much.
I'm pretty sure I didn't actually accomplish anything today, but I was hella busy doing it.
Btw, has Boxed Set already discussed Telegraph's Top 10 Dr. Who Episodes Ever?
Ooh, nice. Can't really argue with their choices, though I think there should've been room for the Second Doctor's Tomb of the Cybermen. I'd probably sub it in for Inferno. Talons of Weng-Chiang, not sure I'd put it at number 1, but I reckon it'd be in there. The guy's right about the atmosphere, the original series never did it better. (Horror of Fang Rock, Image of the Fendahl and The Deadly Assassin are the close runners-up there, all from the same era too. Bloody Mary Whitehouse made 'em stop it.) Even the sock-puppet monster (giant rat) was better realised than most (albeit still, pretty obviously, a sock puppet).
