Erin is me.
Me too, sort of (not rural)! When I got old enough, dad and I'd ride our bikes over. And then it closed, and so we went to Sonic. I had a baby A&W mug forever. We tried to find every A&W between here and the midwest. For the longest time, there was only Aztec, NM and near Champlaigne, Ill. (Champagne? it was a long time ago.) Bygod, we'd stop there no matter the time of day.
There's now an A&W/Long John Silver place near me and I get a burger there just about every friday. I love their cheeseburgers. Always with generous slices of onion and their "secret" sauce (I'm pretty sure it is thousand island dressing or just ketsup and mayo.) I'd get a float, but it would probably make me ill, and I don't want to taint those memories. I
loved
the creamy iced rootbeer that'd form on the ice cream. God.
(there's also a A&W/KFC across from a Baskin Robbins/Dunkin' Donuts not a couple miles further. Cracks me up.)
DH and I are finally catching up on Slings & Arrows S3 (we watched the first 2 eps before Dylan was born...and then Dylan was born...), and realized for the first time that Jeffery's nemesis is played by the same actor who played Marco in The 4400. Knowing this has suddenly become very distracting, because instead of seeing a character, I'm seeing Marco with a silly affected accent.
I am not a soda drinker, but a root beer float is an essential part of summer. But I'm very picky - must have good root beer in a can and cheap vanilla ice cream.
Though, I did have a blended root beer float drink at Warped and that seems to have satisfied my "it is hot and I need a root beer float" cravings.
My dad would take us all to the A&W after Wednesday night or Saturday night church. It was sorta' a thing. In 4th grade I had these white pants with rectangular patterns sewed all over them with red and white thread. One night after church I spilled part of a float on them. Later my teacher asked me about the stain, and I told her about the float. It was hardly embarrassing at all. But those were some weird pants.
Anyway, that's my biggest A&W memory.
In addition to the regular sized float, when we brought in my baby mug, they'd make a mini one in it.
I'd totally forgotten that.
I think I had one of those baby mugs. I wonder where that ended up?
After a yummy brunch (with cake) at Kat's this morning, Polgara and I went to visit Gracie. G was
cranktastic when we got there, but with judicious application of dips and lifts, she giggled her pants off.

Why would you prefer it in a can? Glass wins!
Sure, if you can find glass bottled root beer, that is the best. I just hate using a two liter bottle. The taste is off.
Frozen custard, to me, is the vanilla and orange stuff at the shore.
Root beer floats yay, as long as they have an actual scoop of ice cream. The soft serve gives it a weird texture.
Also, why a can or a bottle? Soda fountain!
