I like that Carey doesn't have to do the show, he just does it because he enjoys it.
He was a panelist on Wait Wait Don't Tell Me recently, and it was totally that -- he seemed to be having a great time.

Having met Helms on more than one occasion I have to say the thing that made him evil is that he was actually extremely personable and charming. I've even seen him topless!

I, too, read that as Jesse Helms had been on Wait Wait Don't Tell Me, and was a little shocked. Or a lot shocked.
You know, it's not that I don't believe that a FtM could be a good parent -- it's that I have all kinds of skeevy reservations about a publicity-seeking FtM.
Yeah, I'm a little skeeved about it too. Cause yes, they got a lot of shit from people. But...y'know, that's gonna happen. Every FtM I know gets shit in a gyno's office when they go in for stuff, if they still have their reproductive organs. Or if they go in to get them checked out before getting them taken out. OMG, the funny-ass shit a friend of mine went through in the hospital when he was getting a hysterectomy while he had a full beard? PRICELESS!! But also a little dangerous. But not surprising at all, either. And in these days when people get the wrong LEG chopped off sometimes, it should not surprise anyone that people go "Wait, this guy is the one getting a uterus taken out, what??"

The status is NOT quo.
He was picking his GF up at the airport today. I told him he's gotta be there w/flowers. Hasn't seen her in a month. He didn't really get it, and then suddenly wanted to be the guy waiting there with the flowers and got all panicky about not having time to get them due to project deadlines. So I picked up a small bouquet of roses in various shades of lavender. It was simple and pretty and sweet-smelling.
I told him that it's terribly endearing to arrive after a five hour flight to a guy with fresh flowers in hand, and also, there's the audience factor of "awww, that's my man right there with the flowers for me. That's right. You're all jealous."
Advice I once got from my friend T.: Flowers are always the right answer. So very true.
And yeah, Allyson didn't get the credit, but sometimes guys need a little nudge. The hope is that he will remember this next time.
(Btw, what did ND say when I just "awwed" about this? ND: "So I should hire a homeless guy to hand you flowers when you fly somewhere?" Me: *dirty look* ND: "So you're telling me that who has the flowers matters." @@ Such a romantic.)
