Now there's a memory! I learned to play scopa on a field project in Sicily in 1994. I was assured it was a Sicilian game, though!

Nocciola gelato has to be the MOST PERFECT GELATO KNOWN TO MAN.
I agree. I double-checked with them when my dessert arrived to make sure they hadn't accidentally given me the coffee caramel gelato.

yes. there was this little gelato place in the Piazza San Marco in Italy that was amazing. We were there twice a day. I would always get a scoop of thhe nocciola and something else.
I discovered Edy's Lemonade popsicles this month, so I can comfort myself when you all start discussing gelato.
meara, I'll come visit and cook you things too. I miss Seattle. Best friend from college lives there, and it's been way too long since I've gone out there to see her. And now there's the added bonus of the Seattle-istas.
DIY cornettos
I can't even imagine. The allure is partially in the fact that it's put together by machines so it's perfectly conical and flat on top.

That wouldn't be horrendous if it was the only flavor available, but in the face of nocciola, not even coffee will cause me to be unfaithful.
Ooh, speaking of coffee... I love a piping hot espresso right after a cup of nocciola. It's something in how the flavors and temperatures combine that makes it so much better than hazelnut-flavored coffee.

We were in Tropea last year and stopped for gelato at a gelateria recommended by a local. I had a scoop of nocciola and a scoop of fig. So yummy.
There's actually a place in Montgomery Mall that sells gelato, including nocciola. It more than suffices in a pinch.
I also miss granitas. I can't find a good granita here unless it's homemade. Mmm, lemon. Or blackberry with fresh whipped cream.

Excuse me.
I crawled into bed around 6 last night intending to take a nap. And then my body decided to go into sleep mode for 14 hours. Oops.
Happy co-Birthday, EpicTangent!!
now i must get ready to go to the parents house to swim.
So hot here! I don't want to leave the house.
I'm sitting on the patio with my laptop, my journal, and a good book. I'm considering pulling some weeds soon.
