Spike's Bitches 41: Thrown together to stand against the forces of darkness

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Thanks, guys!

Ooh, I love King Lear! Also, Antony and Cleopatra. I've not taught them because there are more allusions to Hamlet, and I don't know if the themes would be as accessible to high school students. OTOH, most of my students are highly irritated with ol' Ham by Act III and are seething with the desire to just see him shank himself, already. The end of the play usually provokes satisfaction, not dismay.

(I also love showing the Simpson's version of Hamlet. It's funny as hell, the students love "getting it" and it proves my point of the value of studying the classic because much of modern culture alludes to it. PLus, did I say funny??!)

Because books.

Erin needs an excellent job! Because she is an excellent teacher! And excellent all around! Hear that, universe? ::shakes fist::

We did R&J in ninth grade, actually. I know we did The Crucible, Waiting for Godot, and The American Dream, too (not in ninth grade, though, probably obviously). I can't remember what other Shakespeare we did in high school, though.

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

Waiting for Godot

I did a college paper on Endgame, and got an A pretty much just for attempting it.

Because books.

I think we read Waiting for Godot in AP English, senior year. I loved it. Everyone else was terribly frustrated. I can't remember if I ever read Endgame.

I remember all the Shakespeare I took in college, and it was a lot. But I can't for the life of me remember if we did any other plays in high school, which just seems wrong.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Ok, I have eaten my muffin (with butter: mmmm) and written my thank-you note to yesterday's interviewer(I have really pretty thank-you notes, I wish y'all could see them. They're profesional, yet...pretty!)

Gotta go get stamps, post some stuff, then I am taking some "eh" books to the used bookstore so I can come back and make some order in my office.

Thanks for all the good thoughts -- I AM GOING TO GET THIS JOB.

Mannnnntraaa. OOOOMMMMMMM.

We won’t stop until everyone is gay.

o_a, since we're posting at the same time, I wanted to offer my empathy/sympathy on your Time Warner Cable issues. I just moved (about 2 miles but from one market to another) and we dealt with:

A contractor telling me it was "against TWC policy to drill through hardwood flooring," even though we had a letter of permission from our landlord. I said "fine, run a splitter." He went outside, came back in, and added, "Besides, your crawlspace is dirty." I boggled, then reiterated "Fine, JUST RUN A SPLITTER."

There are more shenanigans involving modem mix-ups and contractor idiocy that I'm too tired to recount.

I just got the first bill and they are not honoring the promotion they offered us (I was going to drop digital and DVR) AND my bill for internet jumped $20.
