"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Yay, one month, vw!

We're in the car, headed home. Sigh.

Huh. Sounds like maybe she is charging a reasonable amount then--she said $20/hr if I supply the cleaning products. (especially since she's not working for a service or anything, and it's under the table). Now if I only could've arranged it so we'd had this conversation earlier, and I could've got her in here before my friend was coming to stay with me tonight. Doh.

Has anyone watched White Noise 2? The trailer was on Knocked Up and the Fillion/Sackhoff combo is hard to resist.

I've never even heard of it!! But the adorable coziness of smonster and amyth living together sounds AWESOME!

I met him four weeks ago today

Oh my goodness! That is rather whirlwind!

Good luck with the extra-ness, Fay!!

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

We pay a ridiculous amount here ($150 a visit), mostly because my housemate wanted to use a service that didn't exploit its workers.

Exactly. My housekeeper was independent, she kept everything. I considered her an independent contractor, so taxes and such were her responsibility. she didn't make enough money for me to do an I-9, so it was all above board.

Huh. Sounds like maybe she is charging a reasonable amount then--she said $20/hr if I supply the cleaning products.

that sounds about right. if you're going to hire her on a regular basis, you might want to think about going flat rate, though.

I know my own heart and understand my fellow man. But I am made unlike anyone I have ever met. I dare to say I am like no one in the whole world. - Anne Lister

We have someone come in twice a month and it's $85/visit. OMG worth every penny.

Now tagless for your comfort.

Oddly, I may actually be hiring someone (a friend of a friend) to clean, soon...we'll see...what do people think the going rate for cleaning is, anyway? I think she's selling herself short. Not, I suppose, that that's a bad thing for me. And I suppose if she has a couple hour minimum, depending on how often I had her come (probably not more than every couple weeks), it'd be fine. I've never hired someone, but I think it'd be good, but weird. But possibly necessary. And suspect it would help keep me *tidy*, as well as clean.

Here in DC, I paid $50 every other week for her to dust, clean the floors, and the kitchen and bathroom. It was good because it forced me to tidy up every two weeks.

Exactly. My housekeeper was independent, she kept everything. I considered her an independent contractor, so taxes and such were her responsibility. she didn't make enough money for me to do an I-9, so it was all above board.

This is my situation, too. I love my cleaning person and she's been extremely reliable and does great work. She quoted me a flat rate, handles her own insurance and taxes. She likes the flexibility the work gives her and I'm happy to pay for what she does. I am glad that it forces me to pick up everything and put it away before she comes in so she can do the heavy cleaning jobs that I really can't get to on a regular basis.

{{{Teppy}}} I don't trust your employers to not fuck you over further. I worked for a non-profit who used the amorphous benchmarks to set someone up for a firing and I left shortly after that. Seriously, watch your back. And send out resumes.

Aims, Olivia got about ten compliments on her wardrobe this weekend.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

The roomies and I are getting someone once a month for three hours. We figure the $20 each is worth it for peace on earth.

A dress should be tight enough to show you're a woman but loose enough to flee from zombies. — Ginger

Hey, everyone.

Ugh, Steph, I feel awful for you. I empathize, cause I STILL feel like a bog ol' loser for not getting my contract renewed. And now with extra added loser crunchiness cause I got a note from the job I interviewed for and they went with another candidate.

Yeah, I got that note when I rolled in at 5 a.m. after a demoralizing night out. Excellent pre-sleep medication.

I have no other nibbles, and my contract (and paychecks) run out on 8/15.

Sorry to not cheerful, but I am NOT cheerful at all about this. So, I feel ya, Tep. I really, really do.

And my internet is really sporadic now. I have no TV, my DVD player got fried by lightning 2 weeks ago and my DVD/CD player on my PC is broken. And I have no money for books.

And my friends that are having the awesome wedding in Sedona next week that I can't go to because of the stupid surgery that cost a lot of money want to have their in-town reception on my birthday. It's the first time my birthday has been on a weekend in three years (it usually falls on the first week of school, so I always work it). I said yes, of course, but I feel like everyone is getting married and having kids and etc., and I'm so unspecial I can't even have my birthday for myself.

Ugh, Need coffee and self-pity diuretic.

Lordy, Erin that sucks.

See if you can Freecycle up a DVD player. People are always upgrading.

That man was going to shank me. Over an omelette. Two eggs and a slice of government cheese. Is that what my life is worth?

{{Erin}} I am so so sorry. I just don't understand why a great teacher doesn't have a job. It boggles the mind.
