(((sj))), hugs for you, sucessful surgery wishes to your nephew. Try to breathe, and trust the doctors. I know you can't really stop worrying, but put that energy to something useful. Make something to send him, or his mom and/or older brother. And don't let yourself get caught in the spiral of worry--do something else when you realize you're futzing over things you can't affect. (((you))) again, just because.
Thanks, Beverly. You know me too well, with the worry. The surgery is actually going to be here in MA, so that it can be done by the same doctor who did his original surgery. So, I should be able to dote on him and spoil him a bit before he heads back home.

In conclusion: WTF. No, really. WTF.
Yeah. Thursday and Friday were perfect days. This is gross. I mean, it could be worse. The humidity is low, and aside from the pollen the air is pretty good (the sky is blue and not hazy white, yesterday at least you could still see all the mountains clearly), but ugh. And why are all our heat waves falling on weekends this year? At work the AC is strong and I don't have to pay for it. Here we have a window unit that more or less makes the first floor livable but does nothing for the second, and I know I'll be feeling the pain again in my electric bill soon.

Susan, if the humidity is low, it would be possible to get relief by aiming fans at bowls of ice cubes, a sort of home-made evaporative cooler.
