Spike's Bitches 41: Thrown together to stand against the forces of darkness

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

I kind of assumed that it was "Same as it Ever Was" plus "MacArthur Park".

Bingo.

shrift explaining her stance on Wincest.

Also.

At least here on the b.

Well, clearly I can't explain it. Though for some reason I associate it with JZ...maybe I just associate JZ with beautiful cakes. From her wedding. Or, um, something. Dunno.

Anyway. Went to dancing. There were like, fifteen people there, max. Ah well. Wednesdays are really just for the rehearsal for their dance troupe. I tried to learn the line dance, only to discover that the meds are making it hard for me to learn dances as well. AHHHH! This is not good. But in this instance, not a big deal, because not a song I would really want to line dance to anyway.

Then I had to flat out tell the 52 year old that I did not want to date her. I felt bad about that. But no.

Well, there was...baking. And being afraid of not ever having that recipe again, having once created the perfect cake.

I forget whether it got left out in the rain or not, and what that meant.

And then there was admiration, and congratulations on having created a beautiful cake, but a strong disinclination to partake, because (wincest, or whatever it might be)it's just not *my* beautiful cake.

To the best of my recollection. And then, the way things like AIFG and wrod and bob likes carrots do, the phrase just passed into lexicon, origins grown misty.

Shouldn't feel bad for being honest. Maybe a little uncomfortable on her behalf, but that's just because you're nice.

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

What Beverly said.

Hello everyone! I have nothing helpful to impart, because I think I've missed, oh, between 5 and 10 thousand posts and there's only so much skimming a person can do. But halloooo! I missed you, beautiful board!

I look more rad than Lutheranism

I always speculated "that is not my beautiful cake" was a reference to the Talking Heads song Same as it ever was (specific line: This is not my beautiful wife)

I kind of assumed that it was "Same as it Ever Was" plus "MacArthur Park." But I have nothing at all to back that up.

I'd assumed Same as it Ever Was plus that whole 'have your cake and eat it' thing.

t pedant The song title is "Once in a Lifetime," if you mean the Talking Heads song. t /pedant

I'm still fuzzy on where the beautiful cake saying came from -- I wasn't asking for the etymological background; "not my beautiful [noun]" is pretty damned obvious as a Talking Heads line. THAT reference didn't elude me. (But the Talking Heads didn't sing about cake, at least in that song, hence my confusion.)

I just wondered why cake, and if it was a fandom thing like John Ringo or whoever. But it seems that it's actually a Buffista thing vs. fandom as a whole (yes?) (at least so far), and it's just one of those things that someone said and now it's a Thing.

Izzat about right?

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

Yup. I think there was a metaphor about how your beautiful cake may be totally disgusting to somebody else (possibly shrift), but that's okay so long as you don't stuff your beautiful cake in her face. Or something.
