We, umm, flipped through the 4e MM looking at the art credits!
The art is generally being praised. They got some damned good artists to fill the job.
Although to that extent, while I much prefer good art to bad art in gaming books (the old D&D interior art was... varied, to say the least), it's kind of like having Janusz Kaminski as your DP. Of course your movie is going to look fantastic.

I do like the artwork. But for the minor quibble that the dragonborn come out looking rather goofy (and, for that matter, with a snout that does kind of resemble Goofy's), at least from the artist who does them most often in the PHB.
Jon Kovalic (of Dork Tower) provides some short thoughts on D&D 4E, and one seriously awesome piece of constructive criticism for the Monster Manual: [link]
Indeed. Adorable, even.
See, now you're spoiling the mood.

Links? Hey, c'mon I'm always interested in comments about the art in products I worked on, even if the comments aren't directed at my stuff. Though, that helps...
Art Critique, by Kristin
The art in 4E is really good. Especially the stuff by the Brit. You know the one. He lives in Seattle and spends a lot time wrangling a perky goth. Anyway, you should buy the book just to see his art. It's shiny. And adorable. Just like him.
The End
Anyway, you should buy the book just to see his art.
Especially the thingamie that looks like it should go
squooka squooka squooka!
(Er, that's the, um ... the Beholder? I suppose I should learn its name, instead of just calling it the squooka monster.)
No, it's not the beholder. Its the Gibbering Orb. Raven did the beholder.
Oh. Why did I think it was the Beholder? Because I really should have remembered the Gibbering part.
