"I've got a gun! I've got a mother-flippin' gun!" - Moss, The IT Crowd

Pete is near-incoherent with anticipation for GTA4.

Not true. I witter with great clarity.

How much am I looking forward to GTA IV? Counting the days, picking it up on the morning of release and losing the day to it. I'm actually intending -due to the depth of interactivity - to treat it more like an RPG in the early phase and just stroll the city and make a small amount of money without dipping into criminality unless forced to. I just want to make the whole thing really last because there is nothing so sad as a GTA city after the final mission is done because no matter what other little errands or stunts there are to do, the city has effectively become static and that just kills it for me.

ION, yes, I strongly recommend Unhallowed Metropolis. The first 50 pages of the book are pure glorious fluff with a really interesting story that has plenty of depth and plenty of juicy questions.

So, given that this is the Gaming thread, if people want to meet on Xbox Live over this weekend for some Halo shenanigans, let me know. Also, the Heroic Map pack is now free so download that, it's worth it. The Legendary map pack is approximately 10 bucks but I think that's worth it too. Great new maps.

Somewhere back in the UK, I still have my original Atari game system tucked away.

Strawberry disappointment.

Is GTA IV coming out on PC at any point?

Or, if that seems impractical, go to Scola's house.

I'm Tom Scola, and I approve of this message!

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Re: board games. Big fan of Settlers, but has anyone played History of the World? LOVE that game, though it is a major time commitment (or needs to be spread over multiple sessions).

"The fact that we live at the bottom of a deep gravity well, on the surface of a gas covered planet going around a nuclear fireball 90 million miles away and think this to be normal is obviously some indication of how skewed our perspective tends to be."

Yeah, I bought History of the World as a Christmas present for a friend a while back. We spent a fair amount of time playing it. It was a lot of fun, although whoever gets the Aztecs in that epoch gets screwed.

You're right though, you have to be able to put aside a fair chunk of time to get a game in.

And whoever gets Rome in its epoch has everybody else whaling the crap out of them for the rest of the game. We played around with some of the turn sequence rules, but eventually decided that the game designers had done a pretty good job setting things up.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

The initial release is PS3 and Xbox 360, but IIRC the previous games have all hit other platforms some time after the original release -- so I wouldn't be surprised to see it sometime later.

Quoted without comment from wikipedia:

A Staten Island-esque area will not be featured in the game for the reason that Rockstar Games believes it would not be fun to play there.

No, I don't think I will - me, quoting Captain Steve Rogers, to all of 2020

Top 100?

(Dammit. Had to leave work and then go to a friggin' class on house-buying and this is the first chance I get to post.)

I'm just gonna pop up here and list some of the games I currently enjoy:

Serenity RPG
D & D (after Sean dragged me kicking and screaming back into a fantasy swords and sorcery world.)
Shadowrun (though we didn't get much of a chance to play 4th ed.)

On computers I like:

City of Heroes/City of Villains (Is anyone surprised?)
WoW (Though not that much.)

And on consoles I have played and can be said to have enjoyed: Rock Band

I'm eager to figure out this Fantasy Grounds thing. I also wish someone in my area or even old group (if we get this newfangled Inter-Web-Net thingie to work) would GM as I am dead sick of it right now. I wanna PLAY, damn you!

Shit's all sorts of different now.

And on consoles I have played and can be said to have enjoyed: Rock Band

Which THRILLS me to no end, I have to say. Other than "Munch Man" our TI when I was a kid, the only other console game I ever played was Tetris on the original Nintendo. RB and GH, tho, I adore beyond reason. Our friends J&S have Rock Band so we went and bought GH2 so we could use the guitar and have all four instruments. Em was at her grandpa's that night and the four of us played for what? SIX HOURS!! Went through a lot of beer.

So I'm excited there's a game that he and I both like that we can play with pther people and have great fun. The only other one we've enjoyed together was Crash Things On Purpose with ND and KT. Werein "Pulling a Pete" was born.

Crash Things On Purpose

AHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I must have this!

(I mean, I get that it's not a real thing. But still, I MUST HAVE THIS!)
