Sean, I also think the Xbox is the one for you. Also, it's cheaper and its library is still ahead of the PS3. Eventually the PS3's extra capacity - the Blu-ray - will make it shine, but that still hasn't happened yet. Also, the Xbox has far more robust online gameplay and you could pick up a copy of Halo 3 cheap and join in the wacky shenanigans. Xbox Live only costs $50 A YEAR.
Omnis, I don't think the violence is that significant. It's no worse than your average crime drama and far less than something like 'Gears of War'.
Kristin, of course you're addicted, it's impossible to resist. And yes, of course I'm online, I'm making up for those 38 days of hell. I haven't played the multiplayer yet, except for the tutorial. BTW, the tutorial is highly recommended since there are facets you would not pick up quickly otherwise.
I spent most of yesterday playing but actually did very few story missions. Mostly it was side errands and stealing police cars to hunt down criminals.
One caveat I think I should mention to anyone who's thinking of buying GTA IV. The combat in the game isn't all that bloody but it is deadly at medium range and utterly lethal at close range. Because of this, if your TV is smaller than 30", you might have trouble picking out opponents at medium or longer range. Sure, there's the auto aim, but it's still nice to be able to see who or what you're aiming at. Just a thought.
Kristin, don't forget to save a little time for Scrabulous while ND and Laga are off with the Mouse.
My Xbox Live username is HarshFire. I've got GTA and Halo 3. And a bunch of other games I've forgotten.
I was just playing GTA multiplayer in 'Free' mode, where you do what you want. We all went to the airport, and robbed helicopters.
was visiting KT last night. Watched her play GTA-iv. Wow. Very cool! Very tempting.
A quick follow up to the GTA violence-level conversation; last night I had to (HAD TO!, I tell you) shotgun a guy who was in a car. While the graphics don't depict real wounds on the people, the mess that was left on the windshield was definitely unpleasant.
Kevin, I'll add you to my FL when I get the chance. Mine's 'The Sengir'.
Still haven't touched MP. I'm almost loath to until I finish the story in case anyone spoils me for it. I'm really enjoying flying blind through the tale.
Kevin, I've added you. My gamertag is Omnis Audis
... and not 'Cannon Fodder' as you might expect.
Maybe I should change my motto from "Here to make you look good" to "cannon fodder".
I've always liked the term "ablative armor"
