Gaming 1: You are likely to be eaten by a grue
A thread for the discussion of games: board, LARP, MMORPG, video, tabletop RPG, game theory etc. etc. and all attendant news, developments and ancillary subjects thereof, as well as coordinating/scheduling games either online or IRL. All are welcome to chime in, talk about their favorite games or learn about gaming of any sort.
PLEASE TO WHITEFONT SPOILERS for video games, RPG modules or anything for which foreknowledge of events might lessen one's enjoyment of whatever gaming experience.
I have a sneaking suspicion that this is not the kind of gaming people were talking about, but I can be a pushy broad, and this addiction is not to be messed with lightly.
SCRABULOUS!
And please fear not, libkitty. I know several of the people who started the thread also play Scrabulous, including myself.
I know very few gamers who won't try almost any game at least once. And fewer still will look down on a game for anything other than being a crap game. Scrabble is a classic.
I've had hours of fun with Scrabble, Monopoly, Life, Parcheesi, Sorry, you name it.
Gaming is a state of mind.
And just like that I'm in a Gary Larsen "blah blah blah Ginger" world all over again.
Ha! megan, if it makes you feel any better, I mostly understood that paragraph, but in no way would be able to explain its meaning to anyone.
And just like that I'm in a Gary Larson "blah blah blah Ginger" world all over again.
Hee! That's all advanced stuff, but I'm happy to expound and babble until your eyes glaze over, megan.
Oh, wait. I see they already have....
I've only played Set once or twice, and not recently, but I think it was fun. I had to run through the online version GC linked to to remember it at all and now I want to play.
I may have to expound on the joys of my
Republic of Rome
board game later, to possibly entertain and intrigue any history buffs out there.
So since we have this shiny gaming thread, allow me to link to one of my current favorite games! Unhallowed Metropolis, the gas-mask chic role-playing game of Neo-Victorian horror.
Now yes, I'm slightly biased. Neo-Victorian Gothic, quasi-Steampunk,
and
zombies and vampires. Plus I know the kids behind it, and they keep taking pictures of me to use in the sourcebooks. But! It's got a great, atmospheric setting. I have no idea how good the mechanics are; I've only played one session of the game so far, and I'm one of those types of players who can't ever remember rules or mechanics. But friends of mine who ARE more mechanics-oriented have made happy noises at the main rule book.
Neo-Victorian zombies and vampires, folks. Really, how can you say no?
That's all the sales pitch I needed, Jilli. Added to the list to check out.
I know we have Set. I have played Bohnanza but am not sure if we own it. I know it has been on the list so if we don't have it then we might need to get it. We also have fluxx and Zombie Fluxx.
I also desperately want to pick up a copy of the OOTS board game. I know Laga has played it.
Also, Jilli, you wicked, evil temptress. You made me want to buy Unhallowed Metropolis, but I can find it nowhere for sale.

Oh crap, is it out of stock everywhere? I'm sorry, Sean. I know that one of my local gaming stores should have it in stock; want me to pick up a copy for you?
(Notice how I am NOT saying "Sean, you should come to Seattle"? Admire my self-control here, people.)
