You'll be happy to know they're planning on trying to release the podcasts of the new episodes about a week after they air (rather than releasing them in giant blocks every so often like they had to do with the first campaign.)
Gaming 1: You are likely to be eaten by a grue
A thread for the discussion of games: board, LARP, MMORPG, video, tabletop RPG, game theory etc. etc. and all attendant news, developments and ancillary subjects thereof, as well as coordinating/scheduling games either online or IRL. All are welcome to chime in, talk about their favorite games or learn about gaming of any sort.
PLEASE TO WHITEFONT SPOILERS for video games, RPG modules or anything for which foreknowledge of events might lessen one's enjoyment of whatever gaming experience.
Ah cool. I still have quite a ways to go on the current campaign though. There are times listening I do get curious about what is showing up on the video feed.
Yeah, I could never do the podcast version. I have a bad habit of tuning out something I'm only listening to while doing something else. I've tried having the episodes up on one monitor while doing something on the other and I constantly end up rewinding because I've completely lost track of what's going on.
I also love watching their facial expressions and there are some great physical humor moments that obviously don't translate to audio only. Matt also does some great mannerisms with his NPCs. I understand the podcast is a lot more convenient for a lot of people, though.
If you haven't already I would suggest looking up some highlight videos on YouTube of Matt playing some of the NPCS (I don't know where you are in the story so I don't want to spoil anything by making specific recommendations.)
I need to head to bed, so I'll have to catch the rest of the episode sometime this weekend, but the new campaign is off to a good start. I can't decide if Nott or Jester are my favorite of the new characters.
I'm at episode 61. They are in the Feywild at the moment.
The Feywild arc was really fun.
Matt's Trinket face is evergreen. Any of the scenes with Victor the black powder are a blast. There's an NPC coming up after the Feywild that the mannerisms on top of the voice are just fantastic.
They did confirm last night that the new podcasts will be released exactly one week from when the episode airs.

I rewatched the first half of C2: Ep1 and what jumped out at me this time is the look of joy and excitement on the players' faces as each person introduces their character and speaks in their voice for the first time. They're genuinely enthralled with meeting these new people their friends have created.
Fun Critical Role/genre fandom fact:
Taliesin Jaffe, who plays Percy in the first campaign and Mollymauk in the second, started his career as Kenny in the movie "Mr. Mom" and made the first-known use of the word "woobie" (in reference to the character's beloved blanket.)
I'm now listening to both campaigns. I think Jester is my fav of the new set of characters.
