The bad part about Mario Kart Wii online is learning the cold hard fact that I SUCK.

It is the nature of online play to give people a dose of cruel perspective. Before the release of Halo 2, the forums were awash with clans guaranteeing their membership would be in the top ten of the various leaderboards. I tried to explain to them the scope of competition they were facing - i.e., the whole frikkin' world and what that would actually mean - but it fell on deaf ears. Needless to say none of those kids got within spitting distance of the top 100.

It's cold. It's hard. And it's a fact. Really, if you are not already a widely recognized master at any massively multiplayer (or otherwise online) game, by definition you suck.

This is why I don't generally play games online except with people I already know. I like my illusions of how well I play video games. They are part of the fun. I need no reminders that I actually suck.

It's not like I'm getting pwned. I'm beating myself.

.....

I think I'm going to call masturbation "pwning myself" from now on.

not your mom's socks.

Pete - not really except that they let someone who liked games write it for once.

I like the idea of the slumping modeler!

Also huzzah for the 70% increase. This is before you factor in the 20% tough client tax, right?

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

It's not like I'm getting pwned. I'm beating myself.

If you were Trudy, I'd be asking "Good lord, did you really just say that" around about now.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

Have I ever mentioned that violent video games make me laugh uproariously?

I had such fits of uncontrollable laughter when I was driving a city bus the wrong way on Lake Shore Drive (in Midtown Madness) that my firends were afraid to let me play again.

Well, it's what I've asked for. They may be considering it but that in no way means I'm getting it.

ETA: I played a few Halo games tonight and just got beaten from one end of the screen to the other. Frankly I've never liked the game as much since they upped the power of the melee attack about a year into the life of Halo 2. The game is more about punching than shooting frankly and it just irks me.

Oh well, thankfully I have only a little time to wait until I can have fun with the 'new hotness'.

GS: If you had to choose between kicking evil in the head or the behind, which would you choose, and why? Minsc: I'm not sure I understand the question. I have two feet, do I not? You do not take a small plate when the feast of evil welcomes seconds.

I was actually very happy when they upped the power of the melee attack. It was a very useful part of your arsenal in the first game, and in Halo 2 as originally released, it was positively anemic.

I just wish they had upped the power in campaign mode as well. It drives me bonkers that Elites can sometimes kill you with a single club from their gun, but you can pound on a Grunt for days before he finally drops. The Chief can flip a tank over with his bare hands. His punches should hurt. A lot.
