I can only help a little. I'm wondering whether it's best to tank and save our cards for a more critical check. Are there any NC checks where passing actually gets us something?

There are in fact no less than ten crisis cards that offer you something for passing a skill check. This, however, is not one of them.

Both Boomer and Roslin have mentioned tanking as an option. A reminder, if you vote to TANK and the others do not, you are not bound by the TANK vote. You may still play into the check. If you are thinking of voting to TANK, then, you can do so without worrying it will shut you out unless everyone agrees.
