I'm tempted to nuke a basestar but we run the risk of harming the civvies in the same sectors as the Basestars don't we?
That is correct; on an 8+, the nuke destroys everything in the sector. It's very exciting!

Sounds like a plan. If you get a critical hit, I'd say just eliminate it entirely; otherwise, try to damage the other one. The good thing about hitting basestars is they become less functional!
