Given that you have to move, Kat, and that I doubt you can brig Cally all by yourself, the only thing I can think of is to XO Tigh or me to fish for a Repair card in the Research Lab. I'd say Tigh since his turn is coming up sooner.
The alternative is to jump to Press Room and grab two Politics cards to hope for a Consolidate Power you can use to turn into Repair cards OR a Political Prowess that can force a pass on a brigging. Actually, there are a lot of Politics cards that would be useful right now. I think that's the better bet. Especially if you draw a CP or two, an XO to you could get us more Repair cards than Research Lab later.

I feel like I have bad luck when it comes to drawing the skill card I really want but I can't do much else besides scout the destination deck. StillI feel like it would be silly to act before getting input from the guy who knows what the next crisis will be. For instance- do we need someone in the sky right away?

I can't think of anything more immediately useful for you to do, Kat, unless you have a card you can play as your action and you want to just move somewhere on Galactica and get back to Research as soon as you can.
