The lost sheep grow teeth, forsake their lambs, and lie with the lions.

I need to figure out where to do some research, though, other than rewatching Carnivale.

I wonder if looking up information on the show itself would point you to some of the sources used.

Because books.

Also a good source! This is why I need you guys! I should probably reread Geek Love, too, although I'm one of the few who didn't like it much.

Water for Elephants

There are a lot of books about the circus and sideshows.

The boy and his selkie could be really good, although selkie love stories never have happy endings. On the other hand, you did a great job on the girl and her dead boyfriend, which was not exactly a happy love story.

Oh, Water for Elephants! Good call.

Man, I have some reading to do. And I just wishlisted a bunch of stuff on Amazon I'm going to look for at the library.

Thanks, everybody!

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

Personally I'd want to read the selkie story. But I think the last idea is highly marketable and would be quite popular. Not my choice of read, but I am weird about what eras I enjoy reading especially compared to what sells well.

not your mom's socks.

I like the selkie story and the triplets. More when I can stop blowing my nose.

Triplet selkies at the circus! The circus owner hides their skins and forces them to perform. The circus runs out of money and is stuck in a small town. They each fall in love with local boys, but their romances take different paths. The boys steal the skins. One boy gives her skin to his selkie and she returns to the sea. One selkie gives the skin to her guy and stays with him, but longs for the sea. One couple finds a balance between land and sea. Someone should drown.
