My goal is to have Cog ready for querying by the end of October. That might be a bit ambitious, though.

I feel a lot better about querying this novel than the first one. Though, once again, I might be fighting its size which is nearly 90k at the moment. I have two scenes that I know I'm cutting for sure, but there are other places that might grow in revision. I guess I'll have to see where things stand after some more work. Generally editing should shrink it some.

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

Would anyone have the time to read a seven page essay?

It's sparse, I'm interested in knowing what ideas I should expand on. If anyone has time/interest, allyson.beatrice @ gmail.

And thanks!

Allyson - I can, I think, this weekend? When do you need it back?

I'd be happy to take a look but it would be even later than this weekend. I've got a beta reading backlog at the moment.

I may end up losing the opening paragraph of Cog which I've always liked. On the plus side that means it'll start with a scene that has an electrostatic mud-cannon.

My book is now in preproduction, the last step before copy-editing. Normally, I'm told, I will be asked to make minor changes to accomodate layout and copyediting, like altering page numbering or changing margins, or things of that nature. Occassionally, authors are asked to revise for tone and that sort of thing. And I am really really hoping not to run into anything of that sort. I really want my editors to date to have found everything like that.
