Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

For the record, from earlier, Word 2007 standard formatting includes extra space after a paragraph.

I just admire Gud and Allyson and the rest of you who have actually finished books.

Allyson and the others have finished books. I have made a rough draft, though I suppose it's a book, just a really, really bad one.

Yeah, I'm afraid I may have messed with that. When I get my motivation back, I may go see if I can figure out how to undo what I did.

I got to the end of 17. Hopefully tonight I'll have time to clean it up and call it good for the first revision.

Then on to chapter 18 which is one of those brand spanking new, never appeared in the rough draft chapters. Then 19 which is character stuff, 20 which is pure action, then 21 another new chapter, then 22 which, yea, kicks off the big middle section.

Hmm... I have 38,000 words in my revision compared to 51,000 words at the same point in the plot as my rough draft. My word count ratio continues to creep up. I'm hoping to end up with 75% to 80% of the word count from the rough draft and it looks like I'm currently on track. The second revision will probably add words overall.

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

Don't look at the word count Gud! It's a killer.

I need to really pay attention to my word count so I don't go too high. The rough draft is 178,000 words which is way too much. I'd like to bring it down to 130,000 to 150,000 maximum. I'm going to have to strike a real balance between detail and word count and probably cut another section of plot somewhere.

Gud, just revise, without worrying so much about the word count. It's only a first revision. After you have a complete revision under your belt, you'll be better able to see the rhythms of the writing and where more can be cut or added.

Signed,

Been there, done that, have the scars to prove it. :)

That's probably good advice. Hopefully, by the time the first revision is done, my plot cuts will let me hit at 130k without really having to mess with it too much. That's where I'd really like to be.
