The Great Write Way, Act Three: Where's the gun?
A place for Buffistas to discuss, beta and otherwise deal and dish on their non-fan fiction projects.
My wife thinks chapter 6 is pretty decent and chapter 7 might need to be tightened up a bit. She also gave me an idea that might be kinda cool and would add some more stuff to the world's backstory. OTOH it would require a pregnancy which I hadn't intended and don't especially want to put in there, and I'd have to kill off a character that wasn't going to get killed off. OTOOH, could be really cool.
I gotta decide what I want to do. Luckily, it is looking to be a really slow day at work so there is time for the occasional space out and think session.
Ha! Not just yours.

I love hearing about your progress. It's so very different from the way I write. It's also hard for me to give advice, though -- I'm really not good with the abstract. If I had pages to look at it, it would be different, but I'm also really, really not a fantasy reader, so.
In other news, an agent-turned-author (but still agent, too!) posted a link to her blog piece about her first sale. And I sort of thought, uh, unless you were writing the worst drivel in the WORLD, your first sale story is probably *not* as impressive as someone who doesn't have years of industry experience and contacts, lady.
Partly I'm posting just because I feel like if I report progress someplace I don't want to stop making progress to report. In theory I have two people looking at it, my wife who has no information expect what's on the pages, and another guy who is a big fantasy reader who has some information about where I'm going with stuff. I've only got feedback from my wife, but the other guy is in the middle of moving so I can understand being a bit slow to respond.

Yeah... I know exactly who you're talking about. And you know, I know her personally and like her a great deal-- when she talks about writing, she geeks out and is every bit as enthusiastic as the next person, which I definitely respect, but in terms of heartwarming story... NSM.
I'm also annoyed about her most recent release, but that's a different story altogether.
Smart Bitches had an item that RWA now has a GLBT chapter.
And Gud, we can totally do more cheerleading if you want it! I'm really impressed with what you're doing.
Barb, yeah, I love her personally, but come on. There's a reason I didn't write about my first sale, you know?

Really?! Dude, I have to check that out. That ... surprises me, given some of the huge splits in attitude about erotic romance alone.
Yeah, the Rainbow Romance Writers. It sparked some bitchiness of the "oh, you're freakin' kidding me!" variety on the RWA-PAN loop, but that got shot down as the ignorant crap it was in a heartbeat.
It was officially announced on May 1.

I was just feeling bad that I was doing 4 and 5 back to back posts. I welcome encouragement and advice though, there is a long ways to go.
I'm really impressed with what you're doing.
That's easy to say when you're not reading it. :) Actually, I don't feel as bad about it as I thought I would even if I'm still skeptical about the quality. However it turns out, it will still be an accomplishment just to do it.

And like they say, you can't revise the blank page. It's excellent to get it *out* and then tweak and polish and move stuff around.

There's nothing I can contribute to this, but I did manage to figure out what the RWA TLA means.
I have character in my story who I kinda thought of as gay, but it really has no impact on the story if he is or not and I can't see wasting words on it because it just wouldn't be all that interesting. As I've developed the story I ended up with another character who could be gay even though I never envisioned her that way before. Since that case would be interesting I'm tempted to leave that open but sprinkle in a few tidbits that kinda sorta might imply it, but nothing explicit enough to nail it down. That way I wouldn't have to really decide.
