Lady, "kind of like" is an explicit phrase of comparison. Please go die in a fire and then re-enroll in seventh-grade English class.
This reminded me of people who say, "Not to be racist but..." or "I'm not a racist, but..." and then go on to say something racist.
"John McCain is kind of like Jesus Christ on the cross," Everhart said as she began the second day of the state GOP convention. "He never denounced God, either."
Everhart was praising McCain for never denouncing the United States while he was being tortured as a prisoner of war in Vietnam.
"I'm not trying to compare John McCain to Jesus Christ, I'm looking at the pain that was there," she said.
Part of me wants to theologically MST3K this, but it's so spectacularly incoherent that I'm not getting any further than, "But he... But the... Buh!"
Though I will note that I ain't gonna hold my breath waiting for Everheart to start comparing all the in-pain-that-is-there-yet-not-denouncing-Islam/Iraq/Bin Laden prisoners in Guantanamo Bay and various US-approved undisclosed locations around the globe to Jesus Christ.
Timelies all!
Had to attend a two hour supplemental training session. It was ok, but a bunch of people got up and left before the leader dismissed us. She seemed a bit miffed by that. (Ok, we were hitting the end of the question-and-answer session, and no one had any more questions, but can't people be polite?)
It is officially fucking hot here.

Officially? Is it so hot that everyone is fucking?
This reminded me of people who say, "Not to be racist but..." or "I'm not a racist, but..." and then go on to say something racist.
Even more fun is when people say, "This may not be PC but ____" and then go on to say something racist (or sexist or homophobic, etc.)
It's like they think the "Not PC" announcement is a Get out of Bigotry Free card.
It is funny to read your Not PC post right after a P-C post.
It really bothers me when people spit out "politically correct" like it's some sort of lame ass thing to try and be decent to our fellow humans.
I've come to hate the term because it's become synonymous with "we're only doing it this way because there are sensitive folks out there..." kind of patronizing assholery. I am quick to cut people off when they start in with "it's not PC...ranty ranty mcrantypants" by saying, "it's not that it's politically incorrect. It's that it is not kind. It isn't decent. Don't use a euphemism for the fact that you're unkind."
Shuts 'em up right quick.
National Geographic
has an article on Peak Oil: [link]
Husseini worries that the world has been slow to wake up to the prospect. Fuel-efficient cars and alternatives such as biofuels will compensate for some of the depleted oil supplies, but the bigger challenge may be inducing oil-hungry societies to curb demand. Any meaningful discussion about changes in our energy-intensive lifestyles, says Husseini, "is still off the table." With the inexorable arithmetic of oil depletion, it may not stay off the table much longer.
