That's got to be a huge relief, megan. What a fucking mess over there.

Oh my gosh, Megan, you have family in Burma? Eesh. Poor people. Bad enough what happened, but for the government to be actively making it worse (as it sounds from the news coverage)...eesh.
Today I got cancer insurance, disability insurance, accident insurance, and plants! Guess which one is actually exciting?
...cancer insurance is a separate thing???
Oh, and my morning started with a bang by having some stupid recruiter I don't know (who has left me multiple *exactly the same* messages) calling...at 5:55AM!!! I was like "NO, I dont' need a job and I"M ON THE WEST COAST, FUCKTARD!"
What a relief for you, megan. That is such a screwed up situation over there.
I was hearing on the radio about the Chinese earthquake--wtf is it with natural disasters this month?
Aims, so sorry to hear about your job--vibing hard for you to get that new one!!
I'm calling my vet this afternoon to report on Amarna's improvement. She's definitely perkier than she was (she was on the sink waiting for me to get out of the shower last night, meowing in concern over my wetness, and she woke me up this morning as well), and I'm sure her temp has gone down close to normal. She has managed to use her litter box some (not as much as before she got sick, though), and she's eating all of her food and drinking some water, too (and even playing with her extra water dish last night by smacking it around the floor and watching the water splash out). I'm hoping that they'll be satisfied with that and tell me not to bother bringing her in unless she doesn't start using the litter box more in the next day or two.
Yay Amarna!
Aww, I'm glad to hear that she's feeling better.
That's good news, Kathy.

Yeah, my coworker is afraid the world is ending.
Did y'all here the bit on NPR from Melissa Block's earthquake-interrupted interview?
It came on while I was still half asleep and the fat cat jumped on the bed.
I woke up a lot faster.
I did, sara. But I had already heard about the earthquake as I was up at 2:30 AM and online.
I love NPR.
In other news, this morning's exciting work question was a woman who said, "I want to immigrate to Canada TODAY. I have been threatening to do it for a while and today I am following up on it. I am tired of being middle aged and sick and not having decent health care and something about teaching in inner-city schools. Is there an emergency visa I can get?"
I hooked her up with the Canadian embassy phone number and the web page on immigration. I was sort of torn between sympathy with her determination and WTF? Especially when she said, "Maybe I could be a refugee?" and I'm thinking, "The US has some sucky things, but I doubt you are in danger of being killed by a military junta here."
So: have you considered emigrating to Canada? Discuss. Canadians welcome to extol the virtues of their nation.
