I kissed him, and I told him that I loved him. And I killed him.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Actually, geologically speaking, I am not sure that is even true. You need massive amounts of the right kinds of biomass in the right conditions, and I think outside of a few specific geologic periods, there is no new starter conditions for more oil fields...

Huh. Interesting.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

And even if lots more oil is being produced, the Earth still has a finite lifespan, so the supply of oil is still finite.

Unless, you now, the people praying for gas prices to come down succeed, and God puts more oil in the ground....

VW Confirms 1L Concept Will Become Reality in 2010

The VW 1L is so named because, in theory, it only consumes one liter of fuel per 100 kilometers traveled. For those of us in the US, this translates into about 235 MPG.

Damn.

The thing is, that kinda of fuel economy comes at the price of riding in an extremely small two seater, with the two seats being one in front of the other, a la jet plane, rather than a standard side by side. The 1L also looks frighteningly close to the ground, which is part of how it pulls off a drag coefficient of .159, much better than any current production vehicle. While the final design isn’t done, VW will probably power the car with a 1 cyclinder diesel engine of displacement lower the .5 L, meaning the car’s speed will top out at 120 km/h.

Remember, remember/the fifth of November/the Gunpowder Treason and Plot/I see no reason/Why Gunpowder Treason/Should ever be forgot.

Huh, I had completely forgotten about something...

There is a abiogenic theory of petroleum generation, as in it doesn't derive from plants, that deep deposits of carbon interacting with other compounds under pressure can create petroleum (very short abridged version of the theory) There is a lot of problems with it, and most scientists argue that even if petroleum is generated by abiogenic processes, the vast majority that is currently available is by biogenic processes.

However, it is a favorite theory of petroleum producers and the focus of their official studies, since it means that there is always more oil coming...

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

(I can't spell today -- I spelled "nominee" about 4 different ways before I got the correct one. Variations included "moninee," niminee," and "nominnr." My fingers are not communicating with my brain.)

Nomnomnom. Now I'm hangry.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

I would much rather see Clinton as a justice or back in the Senate where I think she'll be a real power player than sidelined as Veep. (This is one of the things that pushed me towards Obama, actually - I think she'd be a kick-ass Majority Leader.)

Yep. I've felt all along that her strengths are put to better use in the Senate. Although Veep does not necessarily mean sidelined. Gore accomplished a lot, though it wasn't glamorous, headline-grabbing stuff. I still think we're better off with Hillary in the Senate.

Happy Birthday Glamcookie!

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

I saw a Smart car parked on the street yesterday. It was adorable.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

surprising to exactly no one, I really want a glittery pink Smart Cat (possibly with all over multi-color stripes or polka dots). You know, if I had a place to park it and could afford insurance, never mind the car itself.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Tom! Get into the technology thread and tell me why ACID is overrated! I'm all pent up with anticipation over here.
