Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

A letter to the editor regarding an article on energy policy: [link]

Money quote:

He referred to the “finite supply of oil in the world.” There is no scientific basis for alleging that Earth has a finite supply of oil.

Um... huh?

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

From a bit upthread:

Would any of you be inclined to point out an all-female or all-non-gender-based demographic?

I do remember noting the first time I was on a plane and the pilot announced all the members of her crew and all the names were female. That was unusual enough to stick in my head.

Happy birthday, Glamcookie!!!

I stayed up watching the Indiana results last night. I am sooo cynical--when I heard that the Gary mayor was saying how the whole world was waiting for his city's results and that they were going to push Obama over the top, all I could think of was Richard J. Daley and Kennedy in 1960, when he held the Chicago numbers until the very end to see exactly how many JFK needed to win, and he "managed" to deliver just that number of votes.

And, finally, my commute in this morning was enlivened by being pulled over by a cop who couldn't see my seatbelt from his patrol car. When I told him that I had a relative who died from not wearing a seatbelt and that I am practically religious about the issue, he just patted my arm and said that he was sorry for my loss and let me get back on the road.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Well, I suppose that technically, new oil is always being produced. It's just happening way more slowly than we're using it.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

There is no scientific basis for alleging that Earth has a finite supply of oil.

Well, you know, there's...a....thing?

I can't even make this make sense sarcastically. I rate it one quarter of a Time Cube.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

I rate it one quarter of a Time Cube.

Man, I love Time Cube as much as I love the Real Ultimate Power ninja kid. (Which is to say: bunches and bunches.)

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

Clinton is a surprisingly good legislator, but she's about as qualified to be a judge as Harriet Miers. Please god let's not make the Supreme Court some kind of booby prize.

Clinton's recent turn to disingenuous populism has turned me off her candidacy forever.

Remember, remember/the fifth of November/the Gunpowder Treason and Plot/I see no reason/Why Gunpowder Treason/Should ever be forgot.

Actually, geologically speaking, I am not sure that is even true. You need massive amounts of the right kinds of biomass in the right conditions, and I think outside of a few specific geologic periods, there is no new starter conditions for more oil fields...
