Yeah, if I'm alone and not with any locals, I'll pick chains. But that's more in transit, because if I'm picking the destination, I'll research. Or you know, ask here.
My parents take me out to a lot of chains when I visit, but we often eat out a LOT when I visit, not sure why. At least 50% of the time, it is the local non-chain restaurants. A lot of mexican at their usual haunts, and GASP even Thai (with some fun mexican-thai fusion!) and Indian (sadly, the Indian place closed under a cloud. But it was seriously the best Indian I've ever had. And in Las Cruces? Weird.) And of course burgers and burritos from Ray's Liquor store, which is in an old gas station turned feed store turned liquor turned liquor and semi-takeout.
This is also my GF's lament and has been for several years now.

I'll try some vintage/resale shops tomorrow, because so far the alternative is spending $100-200 at Nordstrom.
I found a pair that I was going to try on at a discount store, but then I looked down and saw that the right leg was embroidered; it looked like a weird shin growth.
Have you ever shopped there, Kristin? I found that with Google earlier, but I've never heard of it before and the T&A doesn't impress me much.
Ah, gotcha. No, I've always bought my cheap cargo pants at Old Navy. Have they stopped carrying them? I was shocked not to find any on their website.
I was at Old Navy earlier, and I didn't see any!
You know what's sad? Feeling proud for remembering I live on the West Coast and not clicking on the Reality TV thread.
Craziness! How is that possible? Didn't they spend the last three years making weirdo commercials in order to embed "Old Navy Cargo!" in my brain?
Hi. I was being looked for?
We were just wondering how you'd react to a free goat.
OMG, Devi is sneezing and I can hear the snot flying. My cats both definitely have spring allergies (Devi sneezes, Mister Kitty wheezes.) So gross.
