Well, I mainly just wanted to render him quiet and passive so the people who've just captured him can take him to where they're going to hold him captive without him kicking up a ruckus or trying to get away.
Give the guy a crack to the head to knock him out for a few minutes, then have him hog-tied for transport. Or even just have the character be conscious but docile for the trip -- a blow to the head can take the fight out of you for a while, even if you were only down for a minute or two. Possibly even have one of the head-crackers acknowledge that it's an imprecise method of pacification, and that it's easy to accidentally kill someone by hitting them

My trivia team came in 22 out of over 400 teams. Not too shabby. I even managed to pull a few answers for them (earning me a "Good job, Noobie!").

It's not about where you hit someone, it's more about how hard. Sean's right--you're not going to be able to get anything on a scale larger than minutes out of unconsciousness itself. If you want him inactive you're going to need to do something else.
