IOyayNews. Our electric bill has gone down 75% since the roommate who kept turing off the porch light to save energy moved out.

Sorry, Laga but that just made me laugh out loud, since my roommate makes us use those new curly (fluorescent?) lightbulbs so that I can barely see in the kitchen half the time, but then, if he's home (and he's home a lot), he's constantly on the computer watching his ginormous TV.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

So even if I get a higher wattage bulb for my kitchen I'll still have trouble cooking at night? Hmm. Maybe I should move the torchiere in there.

Until I clicked the link I was picturing someone who was into lovely Portland Vegan women with Rubenesque figures. Don't know why that, rather than the sandwich crossed my mind, though come to think of it, that would be an extremely focused blog as well.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Huh - the CFLs I have seem as bright as the incandescents they replaced to me.

Laga, I think use high wattage CF bulbs and you will see fine. I have really lousy eyes, but have been doing fine with all CFL for years. Often visitors complain that I keep the house too bright.

I don't know what was there before, but the light in the kitchen is very dim. The one place I want decent light.

The one in the bathroom starts off dim and then gets brighter.

Also, we seem to replace bulbs just as frequently as with regular so I'm not sure how much these save us. Especially relative to the other energy suckers in the house.

Megan, something weird is up, then, because the right ones are very bright.

They do make brighter versions of the CFLs, so you should be able to get one that let's you see better in the kitchen.

However, they should be lasting longer than it sounds like they are. This makes me wonder if the wiring in your lamps/house is faulty.
