Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

I'm bored. I should have made plans with someone this afternoon, but I didn't, so I don't have anything to do tonight. I could go to services, but it's already starting to get dark, so by the time I got dressed and got there, the services would be halfway over. (Which is actually when plenty of people arrive, but I don't like coming in late, especially at this synagogue, where coming in late generally means not getting a chair.)

Now tagless for your comfort.

I'm sitting at home with the kids while my husband sits in the bar. Is it any wonder why it's taken him 2 hours to figure out I couldn't find a babysitter?

Good Trouble and Righteous Fights

I wish you could bring small children into bars here. The fact that you can't meant DH and I have had to all but give up our favorite cheap-but-good sit-down eateries (74th St and Hilltop Ale Houses).

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

What I am doing this weekend, revised: yes indeed, babysitting Princess Tickybox. Wheee, I get to hang out with my favorite toddler! Wish us no meltdowns.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I'm not trying to kick the babies out of the bars, but it was getting to be a little much there, for a minute. And really, the smaller the baby, the better. IMO.

Wait til I have kids...

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Matilda has not only been in a bar (well, a small restaurant with a big bar), she sat on the bar and had her first drink of water out of an actual glass made of glass at the bar. But we did bundle her up and take her home before 8:30.

I can't imagine taking her into an actual drinks-only, bar-type bar, unless it was a brief stop someplace where we knew the bartender and wanted to show her off. Not sure it's even legal here; the only time I've ever walked into a proper bar with her (hanging with juliana and other localistas in North Beach on a coolish afternoon, planning to stop in at a completely empty neighborhood spot for a quick cup of something warm, possibly just coffee), the bartender promptly banished us.

Allyson, that's great!

So I appear to have survived the week, which, two weeks ago, I did not expect.

Whew.

There was a dicey moment early on, but it turned out to be the result of a miscommunication and lo! no one actually threatened to quit.

Pfft. That was New Orleans. As long as Emma switched her liquor from a glass container to a plastic cup before heading out on the street, she was in the clear.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

the bartender promptly banished us.

Yeah, Tosca's is pretty strict about that kind of stuff. However, it is illegal to have any minor inside a drinks-only bar here. Which is why a couple bars have outside seating now - it's legal to have the kid sitting outside the establishment.
