I know DO end up getting hysterectomies/oophorectomies, partly as a health risk issue, to prevent cancer and stuff, and stop the female hormones from ever coming back.
The documentary Southern Comfort is a heartbreakingly cautionary testament to this being a good idea.

OK, not everybody thinks so. But I found it annoying programming them when a client insisted on it. Maybe if I did them more they wouldn't annoy me so....
