I hate to break it to you, oh impotent one, but you're not the big bad anymore, you're not even the kind of naughty.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Beats me.

I've only been alive for ::mumble:: years. In my lifetime I feel it is worse at the moment than it was previously. It's certainly encouraged when countries are at war. It's probably cyclical like damn near everything else?

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

What is going on with LJ? Did I read the front page right that they secretly dropped the ability to create free accounts?

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Pretty much, yeah.

Edit: Ad-free accounts, that is. You still have the option of having a "Plus" account, which is free but has ads on the page.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Hmm. So I take it the next step is to eventually convert all basic accounts to ones with ads on them, right?

If that's the case, they're not admitting it.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

For now, they're saying that the change is for new accounts and older basic accounts are unchanged. But I'd trust 'em about as far as I can throw 'em.

So you think they will continue to support those users ( ahem like me) for free?

I don't have a lot invested in LJ but this kind of sneaky behavior is DUM. It seems clear when they claim to care about the community, they are lying and/or incompetent.

They definitely aren't going to start charging you or feeding you ads tomorrow or anything like that. My cynicism is more that 6 months or a year from now, they'll decide that, hey, wouldn't ads for everyone be a great idea after all.
