Ours is 4 burner w/ a griddle in the middle. I HATE it. It's pretty, but uses so much gas as to be ridiculous and it makes the kitchen warmer than the face of the sun. Not a good thing for LA.

I have no idea how much gas ours uses as compared to a regular gas stove. The only problem I have is the repair issue. One oven door is now broken and stuck open about one inch. And I know my housemate will never bother to get it repaired unless I insist.

I wonder if the heat thing is an insulation problem. I haven't noticed it.

It is probably both insulation and venting. If I don't run the exhaust fan in the summer, the heat can be awful (in the winter, I don't care.) With my old stove, probably original to the apartment (which I'd guess to be built...60s? 70s?) , the livingroom wall it backed on used to get warm to the touch, which kind of freaked me out. It was a nice solid stove, though. Had character even if it was baby yellow. The new one has no character but at least it doesn't require a pilot.

They are pretty well known for not being the most heat-retaining of stoves. We never cooked anything on it for the majority of summer because to add even more heat to the heat it gave off was unbearable.

The top of the griddle remains very warm to the touch whether or not we have it on. If we close the lid over the range, we can use it as a food warmer.

It might not be noticeable if you are in a place where it's cooler, but here, with 100+ days being not outside the realm of possibility, it's obvious how hot these stoves run.

In terms of gas-usage, when we had the gas guy out here to check on a leak, we complained about the gas bill and he said O&M have tons of pilots and burn significantly more gas, less efficiently, than a regular stove. Hence our very expensive bills.

I, too, am paralyzed with jealousy about Jesse getting to see Patrick Stewart in Macbeth. Although, I would probably faint, melt and any number of other things if I got to be that close to him.
