The Minearverse 6: Fiery Thread of Death

[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls, The Inside and Drive), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath. Oh, and help us get Terriers dvds!

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

You know, when the SERENITY logo was first unveiled, I remember a load of fans complaining about the Papyrus font. And I was, like, seriously? Shut the hell up. What does it matter?

I have a pre-loaded rant at the ready about how font choice is a crucial element of any design that involves text, and how most people aren't geeks like me who go, "Oh, not Copperplate AGAIN," yet font absolutely does have an almost subconscious effect on people's perception of the advertisement/store sign/chryon they're reading.

That was just the summary of the rant.

And now I notice the font all the time. Oh god, I hate myself.

Nonsense! You should congratulate yourself! And I'm not even kidding. There's nothing wrong with having a discerning eye. (But try not to say "Oh, not Copperplate AGAIN" *out loud,* because it tends to make people think you're (1) pretentious and/or (2) a dork. Learn from my experience and save yourself the shame.)

Hey, I LOVE copperplate, and i know I am guilty of overuse. But, it's just so nice!

Umm, I just did a powerpoint all Verdana. (In all fairness very little text - no more than six words per slide.)I chose it on the basis that I have bad eyes and Verdana is easy for me to read.

Anyone want to point me to a site that will clue me in on proper font choice? Ideally one that covers it very quickly cause I have a 150 slides, and I'm giving the presentation Tuesday. But a massive font change is not out of the question of there are some clear guiding principles.

Typo - Gill Sans? Univers?

I use Verdana quite often on my sign copy and flyers. When you're laying out massive amounts of information, my biggest concern is readability.

In first world problem news, my cable box/DVR has died. There were flashing lights and then...poof. I still have my backup DVR but I can only watch/tape one thing at a time. This also means that I am without HD channels until Tuesday.

I like Verdana for the screen - that was its original intended use - (so, Typo it's fine - just didn't know if you were looking for some alternates). I haven't used it much for print.

wah - now that I'm at a point where I can look at the new trailer, the link shows that the server is busy.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

Heh. I used to date a guy who would name and critique font choices on billboards and other signage. I think I must have blocked out most of the typography knowledge that I had then.

Yeah, sorry. It should be back online on Monday.

I like Stone Sans Serif better than Gill Sans. Perhaps because I was forced to set an entire incredibly dense research booklet with charts everywhere in the latter.
