Well, a gathering is brie, mellow song stylings; shindig, dip, less mellow song stylings, perhaps a large amount of malt beverage, and hootenanny, well, it's chock full of hoot, just a little bit of nanny.

The Minearverse 6: Fiery Thread of Death

[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls, The Inside and Drive), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath. Oh, and help us get Terriers dvds!

Occasionally I’m callous and strange

I was totally OK with assuming that syringe was just a clean, painless suicide method should Serenity be boarded.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I like that they dig the dark, and that's one of the things I like most about Tim's ability to bring to a story and make hurt even though you thought you had nothing invested.

But not that way. Nope.

Yikes.

Because books.

American Horror Story: I love that this season is exploring insanity itself, and what the definition of it is.

I am sort of disappointed about that other thing, though.

So that was actually goign to be written? Inara injects herself with something and gets raped. A lot. and the Reavers die. And then everything is just okay?

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I do recall hearing that plotline years ago (maybe from Allyson?).

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

Also, Inara's big secret is that she's dying. That's why she left the inner planets and went out to the Rim.

"I make mistakes, but I am on the side of Good," the Golux said, "by accident and happenchance.” – The 13 Clocks, James Thurber

The plot of the story Nathan described -- Serenity landed on an icy planet of people who were friendly, but then tried to steal the ship. When confronted they explained that their planet was dying and there weren't enough resources and they were going to die if they didn't load everyone on the ship and evacuate. The problem was there just wasn't enough fuel and whatnot for all the residents and all the crew, so Mal said to let him sleep on it overnight. While everyone was sleeping overnight he put the ship in gear and took off from the planet and when the crew faced off with him he explained that since they hadn't come across any other planets or ships it proved that if they had brought the others along they all would have died, and in doing things this way he had taken the decision off their shoulders.

That sounded like it could have been worked into a viable episode.
