The Minearverse 6: Fiery Thread of Death
[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls, The Inside and Drive), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath. Oh, and help us get Terriers dvds!

If I can substitute "snarky bastard" I'll stand with you, but otherwise no.
I have been in fascination and intrigue with Roth since Rob Roy. When he's onscreen it's like everybody else loses a few degrees of vibrance.
What is that?
What is that?
Upstaging?
Actually, I think it depends on the cast.
Say what you will about Tarantino, but he does get actors with lots of wattage on screen.
It's not like Tim Roth blows Keitel or Buscemi or Madsen off the screen in Reservoir Dogs.

Lord, what an utterly loathsome character. I mean that as a compliment. I'm trying to think of someone more vile - Gary Oldman in Leon comes to mind (I swear they were having a competition for a couple of years there for who could out sleaze who, before they went into who can direct the most depressing debut movie). Maybe Jason Issacs in The Patriot, but with Mel Gibson as the hero at that point in his career it makes it hard to hate him quite as much.
What is that?
charisma? talent?
Yes, that character was utterly loathsome. What made him worse was that Roth managed to find some bits of vulnerability to play, before he turned on a tuppence and drove you right back into revulsion that such a being could be spawned and had managed to prey on weaker or less observant beings and survive so long.
Roth holds the screen, no matter who he's playing, no matter who shares that screen. On Lie to Me, he shares, deliberately, generously, with the actress who plays his daughter. She's good at her role, but not good enough to take focus from Roth without his willing participation.
Preserve me from ever having Cal Lightman bend and peer up into my face. I'm aware it's a trick. Still, brrrr.
Everyone set their DVRs for Chicago Code? Good good.
Oh, I need to do that! Thanks for the reminder.
