I get the angry, but don't feel stupid. This sounds like a total assy gotcha maneuver by the city.

Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Ugh. I can't get over how angry and stupid I feel. Geez. I really would have registered if I had known.
Angry, fine, but that last sentence right there is exactly why you shouldn't feel stupid, not in the least. If anyone -- the IRS website, your agent, one of the fellow writers who guided you through this whole thing, an accountant at your publisher's, anyone had told you, you'd have taken care of it. Don't feel stupid because you failed to psychically intuit some bizarro aspect of an arcane LA County tax law.
But I think the discussion will be both more productive and more fun if we talk about who will make the better President rather than who will make the better candidate. Cause there is real evidence for taking positions on the former, not so much for taking positions on the latter.
The "horse race" aspect of the whole Clusterfuck To The White House drives me insane.
I'm a weird sort of political junkie, because I enjoy the candidacies, and I enjoy talking/speculating about them. Possibly more so than talking about what kind of president Clinton or Obama would make. Because the qualities that make someone a "good candidate" are not necessarily the qualities that make someone a "good president." And I find that interesting.
Well, the problem is the city doesn't tell you until after you file taxes with 1099.
The docs office today was surprisingly quick. That's what happens when they squeeze you in as the first appointment. We have to go back on monday.

What JZ said. I have a tendency to beat myself up over things, but I think in this instance, it's okay not to feel stupid and just say, "WTF, government, WTFingF?

crosses fingers that works. I have the first or second appt tomorrow at a new dr. and then next week at mac's led dr. My plan is to arrive when the office opens and hope things go fast.
I just wrote to my agent to let her other clients know that LA does this. I'm sure it's because there are so many people in LA who fall into a Creative Artist category.
The exemption is only for those making under 300K.
I wish they publicized this.
I'm firmly with Steph in the politics camp. The truth is we can't talk about who would make a good president because so much of what rides on that is circumstances and responses to those circumstances. As it pertains to Obama and Clinton, they are extremely similar. Who woudl be the better president? It's hard to tell as neither has really had that sort of Executive leadership experience.
I am irked when she cites her first lady stuff as experience. Actually I'm irked when she says she has experience at all. Her on-the-job experience in elected office is senator. And she's had that for slightly longer than Obama. I am also irked at the "vote for Clinton and you get two-for-one" because THAT does play into both the fears for the Right which does change the debate that is possible. Also, when she is asked about him and his role she says "Well I'm the one here." yet the up-playing of his role by the campaign grates.

And I believe it's 300K on 1099s, not including work that you would get a W2 for.
The previous politics brought to you by too much time spent in traffic listening to NPR.
Damn mail man just woke Noah up by knocking on the door. IRK.
