Just call me "Siouxsie Shunshine".

The only things making this day tolerable are the fact it is actually chilly here (55 degrees), it's Thursday so the week is almost done and I can play my iPod while kids work on projects (roataing between the Best of College Acapella and the Red Hot Chilli Pipers)

We're all getting played with, babe. -Weird Barbie

I miss my Tivo. I also miss my Kristin. Not in that order either.
Aw, thanks. I miss you too. I'm so glad I got to hang out with you Monday night, at least. Any chance I can see you tonight or tomorrow?

What makes my today tolerable is that today is "Zoo Day" (don't ask, it's another Spirit Week thing), so I'm in full tourist garb: jeans, Tevas, a floppy canvas hat, camera around my neck, and ND's uber-cheesy Hawaiian shirt with a lady in a waterfall on the back.

Compassionately intolerant

I have to say that I really really value (1) the clarity, simplicity and elegance of our board and (2) the fact that Buffistas care about grammar, spelling and punctuation. And do not resort to stupid fucking lolspeak. And do not resort to jiggling smilies in place of adequate expression.

Amen and amen.

Even if I wanted to spend time on another board...which I vehemently do not...I couldn't bear it with all the clutter and teeny text and graphic madness and lolspeak.

I love the buffyspeak and the can hazzing around here, but I can love it because I know it's for effect, rather than a refuge from attempting actual grammar.

Buffistas are bright and shiny and oh, so lovely and intelligent. Thank dog.

eta: Hmm. Should that read 'for affect? Now see, I can ask that because I know someone around here will actually know the answer with some authority. Made of win.

Good Trouble and Righteous Fights

I just heard a story this morning on NPR about different groups of people in Texas and who they're supporting. One woman said that as a woman, she appreciated how far Clinton had come, but as a woman, she really respects men's ability to lead.

That's the last story I heard before getting out of the car at the park & ride this a.m., and I'm still picking up little pieces of my exploded head. I mean, I know there are Christians out there who don't think women should hold any leadership role, whether secular or religious, but I like to think of them as a lunatic fringe, not members of a large big city church in my own childhood denomination.

Of course, my refusal to accept a lesser role for women and my inability to go on pretending to myself I didn't believe in evolution are what first shoved me over from Religious Right to Religious Left.

"In the equation E = mc⬧, c⬧ is a pretty big honking number." - Scola

Should that read 'for affect?

Nope. Er, I was going to have a reasoned argument, but I can never remember the words to use to define affect as a noun, except that I always think of people with certain kinds of mental illness having no affect. Maybe someone else can help out.

Also, I too love the board. I tried the Bronze, ages ago, but I could never get into it. You guys are my people.

ETA: Nothing wrong with the Bronze, or anyplace else. Just that spelling/grammar/punctuation is one of my deal-breakers, while it may not be for others. Although I'm a bit suspicious that there may be an elitist aspect to that. I get very conflicted.

Because books.

You were right the first time, bonny. The way to remember it is that e follows a, so the effect is what's caused by an action.

ND's uber-cheesy Hawaiian shirt with a lady in a waterfall on the back.

His collection of uber-cheesy Hawaiian shirts endures, huh?

KT, I'll bet you look uber-cute! I hope you've been getting picts of these great outfits all week. I also hope you and ND are able to get some time together soon.

In an act of random abandon I wore blue suade 8 eye Doc's to work today with a long sweater (it comes down to my knees). I can't decide if the look is more Elvis or Obewan/Jedi.

I have to say I'm not exactly grieving that they seem to be having the implosion that happens 90% of the time with these nondenominational cult of personality churches.
