I think DMV on NYE might be a brilliant idea. I had to go to the district to resolve my pay dispute last week and I waited for no more than 5 minutes, which is amazing.

Speaking of which: The CFO of the district sent a letter to all employees 7 days before the deadline to resolve this shit. Here's the gist that most people probably didn't see due to the holidays.

If you opted to do nothing about an overpayment, then in 2008, you are now responsible for not only the net overpayment, but also the GROSS overpayment. So while I was responsible for the $4000 they said I received, on paper, they overpaid me by $7000 something. But the the $3000 in taxes were not my responsibility. Since I resolved it in the same tax year, it's been fixed somehow.

But people who DIDN'T resolve it in the same tax year, are now responsible for gross amount. Does that make any sense to any of you who know anything about taxes?

My driver's license expires on the 3rd. And while I am not driving, I figure it is good to have a valid picture ID, you know?

Although when one considers that this is the longest I have spent upright since last Wednesday and I have eaten approximately two meals in the last five days, I probably will not be functional by this afternoon.

Now tagless for your comfort.

I have a slip of paper in my wallet that says I have a license. I'm waiting for them to mail me my new one. Freaky feeling.

Kat, that is just fucked and bizarre. But I know nothing from taxes.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

shrift, you never know, you might have a relapse and have to drive yourself to the ER on the 4th! So perhaps by a DMV stop, you will ward off the relapse and the need?

Hey, I use the same principle with umbrellas....

Kat, perhaps the tax laws work that way on the planet that admin comes from. So nice they're notifying you just before the end of the year when most people are away and couldn't do anything about it any way.

Ann, that's a ferret.

Over the weekend:

((((Cashmere and family)))) On an unrelated note, the county fair next summer should have all the cheese curds Owen can eat. Not that that helps now.

I vote Dulles over National. For distance flights, less chance of a stopover or a plane change. There's regular van service from the airport to West Falls Church Metro station (and if you rent a car, the Dulles Access road deadends into I-66 just outside Falls Church). Not to mention that National's noise abatement procedures are highly Not Recommended for those with any fear of flying whatsoever.

Kat, all I can say is that Taxes Is Weird and Freaky.

Teddy came home from the hospital yesterday. The current theory is that he had too much cyclosporine (immune suppressant) in his system, which led to nausea and vomiting. The vomiting led to dehydration, which caused the bad kidney values. He's resting comfortably and goes back for another ultrasound (to make sure there's no kidney damage) Wednesday morning.

Dude, if I have relapse, I'm calling a taxi or an ambulance. Driving would be unpossible.

But yeah, I have all my documents with me, so I'll be attempting the DMV this afternoon. I mean, it's across the street, so I might as well.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Does the DMV get to close early today?

We drove to a nearby dairy this weekend. Walked out with $40 worth of cheese made on site--including said cheese curds. We can actually watch the process through big windows and Owen seemed to enjoy it.

I'd call the DMV first just to check. Or you know, deal with it on the 2nd?

So nice they're notifying you just before the end of the year when most people are away and couldn't do anything about it any way.

well, yeah. And they didn't actually send the letter. I only saw it because I was on the website and I was tooling around looking for something else and I clicked on the PDF of the letter. People are going to be pissed.

Cash, in Ohio near where I grew up, there was a cheese factory in an Amish village. I used to LOVE watching the cheese being made. Even if it was A Very Smelly Place.
