It's a week past the last (non-law school) finals and the office is open but man, we are pretty close to deserted. But we have off all next week and the 31st and 1st.

Oh, I have a question for the hivemind. Can someone out there tell me why some people must have a gift card design that matches the little freebie envelope that they want to put it in? I've had a few customers at the bookstore who were starting to freak out over the fact that the only holiday card design we had left (until we sold out of those last night) didn't match the envelope's design. I just @@@ forever as they leave.
I am so not looking forward to this weekend at the bookstore. Ugh, this is why I stopped working Waldenbooks back in 2002, because I didn't want to do any more Retail Christmases.
My most senior boss (if you could call GWB my boss, since I loathe him and he doesn't know I exist) cheerfully violated the First Amendment and gave us the 24th off; I rather doubt we'll also get the 31st off--to be entirely cynical, the 1st isn't considered a religious holiday by most of the country (even though it's a holy day in the Catholic church).
I'm a bit pissy about the First Amendment thing, but rather happy not to have to use a vacation day for Monday's cleaning and baking.
I have the 24th off, but not the 31st.
Pres. Bush gave me the 24th off. I sort of wish he'd give us the 31st off too but it hasn't happened yet.
I hear you, Kathy.
I have escaped from my last class for the year! I'm off until the 2nd, when I'll :: gulp :: start a schedule of 3 courses instead of 2, which while it sounds more efficient may not be at all. I know I can drop one and take it later, but I'd like to get through this 'year' as expeditiously as possible.
So far, school has been very much more fun than feeling like 'work' -- not that we haven't gotten a boatload done, but it's been so pleasant that it's just rushed by.
Oh, and our local boss just gave us an hour off this afternoon so I can leave in 1:15! Yay me!
Quote of the day?
"I'm the Ali of today. I'm the Marvin Gaye of today. I'm the Bob Marley of today. I'm the Martin Luther King, or all the other greats that have come before us. And a lot of people are starting to realize that now," — R. Kelly.
Quote of the decade, tommyrot. Quote. of. the. decade.
For comparison, here is the quote of the 90s:
Alas, Milli Vanilli is also heard from. "Musically, we are more talented than any Bob Dylan," announces Robert Pilatus, 24, with very little prodding. "Musically, we are more talented than Paul McCartney. Mick Jagger, his lines are not clear. He don't know how he should produce a sound. I'm the new modern rock 'n' roll. I'm the new Elvis." His (often silent) partner, Fabrice Morvan, 23, has his own key to success: "Rhythm, you know."
So, for folks who don't normally get New Years Eve off, are you getting it off this year (because New Years Day is on Tuesday)?
No, but I'm taking it anyway! Ha!
We do get Boxing Day and the 24th off, though. So it's not all bad.
