Overwhelming? How much more than whelming would that be exactly?

Good Trouble and Righteous Fights

Well, United is getting a reputation for really poor maintenance.

Interesting. We haven't flown them in awhile, because for the past couple of years we've been flying Southwest almost exclusively--friendlier, more legroom, and the cattle call boarding paradoxically makes it less likely rather than more so for us as a family of three to get stuck with miserably bad seats. I don't like the new boarding system they just started as much, because now as a family with a small child we board between the A and B groups instead of before the A, but so far we've been getting around that by making sure to print out our boarding passes as soon as they're available so we get in the A group. But I'm sure next time I travel alone I'll like it better, because now you have a place number and board in order rather than just being in the A group, so you don't have to line up until they're ready to board.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Basically ANY person who took family medical leave or any long term disability time was overpaid and the district WILL take it back. Also people who are fucked are anyone with an unusual salary above base pay, so if you worked extra you were screwed. My friend the librarian owes over $12,000 because she works all year.

That sounds like it should be a class-action lawsuit.

Well, it'd be hard to have a class-action lawsuit for being overpaid. Whatever. I'm fucked. That's about the beginning and end of it. I'm fucked and won't be able to afford child care next year. Thanks, job! I appreciate being fucked over my minimal pay for a job that society allegedly values.

And, I know I'm supposed to be appreciative of the fact that I'm not one of the large number of people who weren't paid month after month for the same job.

What irks is that the pay system implemented has not only fucked over thousands of employees, but the district paid multiple millions of dollars for it.

Yay?

It's a put your head in the oven situation.

And my favorite part? The little guy who basically steals childcare from me says, "Have a good holiday."

I stopped and turned around and said, "That's the most absurd thing you can say to someone in my situation." I didn't add "you inconsiderate fuckwad" but it was implied in my glare.

OH! the best part of all of this? The district has been holding a state payment for my national board certification that is $5000 (for last year's work at a Title I low performing school). So in addition to owing them money, they owe me money.

The other issue is that no one knows what their base pay is supposed to be because the way they put it on the pay check is just as one lump sum. Not an hourly rate as they used to do. And my base pay changed 3 times in one year, effective on one date, but entered into the system until 5 months after the fact.

A coworker was told he owed $12,000 but when he got to the meeting, they realized the district actually owed him over $8000.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

The whole pay thing for LAUSD is a clusterfuck of massive proportions and I am especially sorry it has to be so difficult for you, Kat. Good Holiday dude can fuck off.
