information libertarian

In sum: people who like control fear flying and like driving; people who like to not be responsible like flying and fear driving. Interesting.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

I thought you quit, Empress.

I thought I did, too.

Lo, I am weak.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

And my biggest car crash fear is that I'll be in slow or stopped traffic and rammed from behind by something big enough to absolutely crush my car

the day before 6th grade started - our family SUBURBAN TOTALED by a semi-truck hauling rock who hit us from behind as we were stopped on the shoulder trying to avoid being hit in the front by an out of control semi-truck pulling a carnival ride. Me? I wasn't buckled in. Luckily I was the worst injured with 3-4 big cruises and some temp compression damage to vertebrae.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Hmmm. I love driving and hate flying, but fear neither. My hatred of flying is entirely comfort-driven. (If I could afford to fly first class, I'd probably hate flying less, but there'd still be that whole my-sinuses-feeling-like-they-might-explode issue to contend with.)

Trains are my favorite.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

I'm not sure if I don't "like" control, but I realize that random death can always get you no matter where you are or what you're doing. Sure, the odds vary, but you're never 100% safe, whether you are in control or not.

Oops, didn't want to turn into a rant....

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Huh, Boston just declared a snow emergency, so we're getting to leave at 1:30. I can only assume Salem will do the same. Thank doG I can park in the landlord's driveway during those. I had kinda planned on going to a movie after work, but I guess not.

Me too! Then I put on my engineer's hat and start going, "Chugga-chugga chugga-chugga chugga chugga. Woooo-whoooooo!"

OK, I don't do that. But some day I'd love to try. Plus then I'd be guaranteed an empty seat near me.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I was going to come in and say something about the wintry mix, but msbelle did it so much better.

AND the guy gave me the wrong sandwich! BAH.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I figure that commercial pilots are at least as well regulated (hopefully dramatically better) than registered drivers, not to mention air traffic control, etc, etc.

While I have confidence in my own driving skills, I don't want to remotely be responsible for death or injury of another person.

Assuming the pilot of the plane is probably a better pilot than I am a driver and most certainly a better pilot than the other motorists are drivers (because I'm haughty like that) plays into my sensation that flying's safer--which is different from my fear of causing injury or harm.

"In the equation E = mc⬧, c⬧ is a pretty big honking number." - Scola

Also, I mean, Christmas is not that major a Christian holiday! Go fight a frelling war on Easter, would you?

Right? Let's see, what are we celebrating? The anniversary of -- no, wait, that probably happened in Spring. And why is it in December? Well, because everyone has a winter holiday. So what are we celebrating? We should just say, "Happy animal fear that the sun will never come up again and attempts to propitiate the gods to make it warmer!" But I'll go with holidays, I suppose.
